LGBTQ-Affirmative Therapy
Given the challenges LGBTQ groups must confront, finding an openly LGBTQ therapist or one specializing in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender issues can offer some support and healing.
Coping with stigma and discrimination, coming out, and discovering an authentic sense of self in the face of social expectations and pressures can lead to depression and anxiety, substance use, and other mental health concerns for LGBTQ people.
When seeking therapy for issues associated with one’s sexual, romantic, or gender identity or concerns related to mental health, it is essential to work with someone who has a great deal of experience with LGBTQ issues. As an LGBTQ-affirmative therapist, I treat individuals, couples, and families with the dignity, respect, and affirmation they deserve.
I live an affirmative life, which means reflecting on my attitudes and beliefs, acknowledging areas of privilege, recognizing bias and stigma, being involved in the LGBTQ community, striving for social justice and change, being open about my commitment to proving affirmative therapy, and with heterosexual and cisgender clients, act as an advocate by challenging heterosexism and gender binary.
